Per Ed Perry: The above picture shows 8 yellow nickar seeds, collected by Christopher Scott Boykin, from the Florida Keys. Notice their tendency to bleach white. All eight float in saltwater. The largest of those above, and 9th in the picture, and white, is from Jerry Sullivan in Port Aransas, Texas, found on the beach there. I have also found these in Florida, and Nelson reports them from Europe. These appear different from C. sp. Mark Bartlett in Sarasota, Florida has already sprouted seeds of these and ciliata; the resulting plants are very different. We DO have at least two yellow nickarnuts! |
