A Sea-Bean Guide Hamburger Bean (Mucuna sp.)
Sea-Beans of Costa Rica

This Apeiba aspera bean was obtained on the beach in Costa Rica by Mary Moon.
No one at the 2002 Sea-bean Symposium could identify this bean!

Ed Perry has determined that this is a "monkeycomb."
It is Apeiba aspera, from a Costa Rican tree in the Tiliaceae family.
It is an unusual driftseed.

Of course, it is listed on "Wayne's Word" pages:
An Assortment of Tropical Drift Fruits & Seeds
and
Unusual Costa Rican Drift Fruit

The size of this specimen is about 2.5 inches across and about 1.5 inches high.
